Poppy Faun: Stronger Together.

  • Multidisciplinary artist Poppy Faun has long been renowned for repurposing mid-century imagery and channelling it through themes of togetherness, unity and personal struggle. Her practice has rapidly evolved to encompass photography, painting, collage and drawing, each medium giving a unique snapshot into the mind of one of Brighton’s most prolific artists.

Ahead of Poppy’s latest release of originals as part of her ‘Stronger together’ series, we caught up with the artist to discuss how the series came to be, her artistic process and the meaning behind some of the imagery within.

How did this series start and what does it mean to you?

Stronger together began as a quiet obsession - a fascination with the way human connections and moments of intimacy were depicted in 60s and 70s books. Over a decade, I’ve carefully collected these images, drawn to their rawness, simplicity and timeless emotional weight.

This series is my way of reinterpreting those moments, infusing them with symbols like angel wings to highlight hope, resilience and unity.

To me, it’s a love letter to humanity - a reminder that even in stillness, we’re stronger together.

How do you see this series evolving?

To me, the simplicity of ‘Stronger together’ feels timeless. Part of its power lies in staying true to its essence. That said, art is ever-evolving, so who knows? Maybe I’ll be chasing new inspirations in the next series - but for now I’m happy to let this series live in its purest form.

What’s behind your choice of images in this series?

The images I choose are a balance between spontaneity and instinct. They come from original found and sourced 60s and 70s books. Where scenes of everyday life and human connection are frozen in time. I’m drawn to photographs that convey vulnerability, strength or a quiet story - images that, when paired with the symbolic touches like angel wings, feel both nostalgic and universal.

The angel wings are a nod to the fleeting nature of our time here on Earth, they remind us to embrace connection, love and compassion while we can. The stronger hand-painted messages like ‘stronger together’, ‘love wins’ or ‘choose peace, tie it all together - offering timeless reminders of what really matters. Together, these elements invite the viewer to reflect on their own humanity and the connections that make life meaningful.

How do these pieces fit within the rest of your work?

I’ve never been interested in sticking to one medium, art, for me, is about movement, curiosity and storytelling. Whether I’m painting, layering in found imagery or experimenting with new techniques my goal is always the same; to create something that resonates, something that feels alive.

This series feels like a conversation between past and present, reviving moments from 60s and 70s photography and reframing them with messages of love and unity. It;s not just a body of work; it’s an extension of the same heartbeat that runs through all of my creations. The beauty of being a multidisciplinary artist is that I;m not tied to a single form, one day it’s paint, the next it’s collage or photography, the soul of my work remains constant: finding beauty in human connection, reminding us of what matters and offering a lens through which we can see ourselves a little clearer.

Poppy’s latest instalment of originals in the ‘Stronger together’ series is available to purchase here.
