Shepard Fairey in an American contemporary muralist, graphic artist, activist and founder of OBEY clothing.
Fairey became involved with art in 1984, when he started to place his drawings on skateboards and T-shirts. He moved to Rhode Island in 1988 to attend theRhode Island School of Design, gaining a Bachelor of Fine Artsdegree in Illustration in 1992.
He first gained attention for creating a sticker with a portrait of the towering professional wrestler André the Giant and the word Obey. Fairey is perhaps best known for his iconic 2008 “Hope” poster depicting then U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama. His work combined street-art activism with entrepreneurial spirit and has been described him as one of the best known and most influential street artist.
