Eric Stefanski is a Chicago born and based multimedia artist. His works often incorporate mixed media—including layered paint, stencils, and reclaimed objects—and feature short, direct, sometimes vulgar phrases that draw in the viewer’s attention, often using heavy layers of acrylic paint to give his canvases a sculptural texture.
His practice is intentionally provocative, intending to reflect on the humour and rejection that comes with having a studio practice. The intention is to point outward to larger issues in our culture and art history while also reflecting on his own personal history.
Stefanski earned his MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, in 2015. His works have been exhibited extensively in Chicago and Boston, as well as solo exhibitions in cities including Tokyo and Madrid.
