Alex Kizu AKA Defer is a Los Angeles based graffiti artist specialising in a unique combination of traditional graffiti and calligraphy. His prolific and dynamic nature helped push forward LA’s visual lexicon.
His signature aesthetic, referred to as ‘spiritual language’ has seen him compared to artists such as Retna and Saber; similarly renowned for their innovative and eye-catching approach to typography. DEFER strives to achieve a ‘flow state’ in his work, aiming to capture the natural motion of calligraphy within vibrant, complex compositions.
Defer has since expertly transitioned from the streets to the world of fine-art, his sold out show at Woodbury house in London firmly establishing him as a highly-collectable artist. He has since featured heavily in various ‘Beyond the streets’ exhibitions worldwide, and turned his hand to commercial murals, notably featuring at Nike’s headquarters in Portland, Oregon. His work is also archived by the Getty research institute.
