Unbound

Helm is proud to announce Unbound; a brand new showcase of original works by Poppy Faun.

"A story of love, dreams, escape and finding a purpose. Life is good. Paradise is here and now.

This new series explores a fairy tale story of two lovers and their horse ‘Braveheart’, free from all the struggles of life and surrounded by all the things they love; influential music, creativity, film and freedom. The series also focuses on life with a sense of angels watching over us all when we need it, a teaching of growth, exploring a new path, positivity and manifesting dreams into a reality.

I wanted this series of paintings to have a sense of humour and light-heartedness even though there is deeper meaning, and while they were being created I was in a challenging place in my life. I try and find ways of turning any negativity into a positive. Life is too short to hold onto the bad things.

Everyone has strengths and weaknesses but it’s how you turn your weakness into a positive that counts." Poppy Faun

Throughout the showcase there will be a number of events to attend;

On Wednesday 21st February, Poppy will host an informal badge-making session at Helm, inviting you to create badges of your own design to take away with you. Read more here.

To join our evening celebration of Unbound on Friday 23rd February, please email info@helm-gallery.com. The party is free to attend, and will feature a short introduction to the series by the artist herself.

On Sunday 25th February we will have our first ever film screening, as we show Wim Wenders' Paris, Texas. As Poppy's favourite film of all time, Paris, Texas, serves as a source of inspiration for this series of paintings. Find out more here.

Unbound has been a year in the making and we are excited to present the series at Helm. You can view the artwork between 20th February and 3rd March during our regular opening hours. Work that is centred around "being here in the moment, and living for it" - one not to be missed.

Unbound will be on show in our ground floor gallery space, which has wheelchair access from our main entrance at street level. The space is on even level with no steps or slopes and there is a gender neutral wheelchair accessible bathroom.

About the artist

Poppy Faun is a multi-disciplinary artist from Brighton. Her work is best known for using nostalgic imagery to convey feelings of optimism, lust, and introspection while playing on the vibrant iconography of the 20th century.

Poppy's art has long been celebrated on an international level, she's worked with brands such as Playboy and Missoma as well as having been featured in British Vogue. Her work has a broad collector-base and is instantly recognisable for it's striking portrayal of alternative culture and retro-beauty.

Never comfortable with the ordinary, Poppy has constantly strived to develop her technique over time. The last year has seen her fine-tune her prominent use of mid-century aesthetics for an output that represents her most personal and ambitious collection of works to date. Her signature style dovetails the painterly with the graphic and makes her one of the most sought-after up and coming artists the city has to offer.
