Lavender Boy

“Finding drag, much like when a drag performer starts dabbling in the act themselves, brought me so much freedom!”

We are proud to announce our next exhibition of the summer - Lavender Boy: a solo debut by photographer Greg Bailey

Between 1st August and 1st September, Greg will be taking over Helm’s exhibition hall, showcasing shots that span the last ten years of his career photographing drag performers from around the world. This brand new exhibition captures the culturally rich art form of drag; through beauty, queerness and a riot of colour.

Including never before seen work alongside choices from the artist’s archive, Lavender Boy will offer visitors their first chance to view this extensive body of Greg’s photography in one space, immersing them in the gender bending world of drag.

Everybody is welcome to attend the exhibition’s opening party on Thursday 1st August. We'll have music from producer DJ Emily Meow and you may even spot your favourite drag queen! Simply register for your free ticket below

During the exhibition there will be a number of other events to get involved with, including an interview with Greg in front of a live audience on 14th August. Book your ticket now.

On 8th August, you will have the chance to get in front of the camera, as Greg invites you to model in your own photoshoot at Helm. Find out more here.

There are even more announcements to come! Sign up to our newsletter now to be the first to hear.

About the artist

Greg Bailey is a Brighton based photographer & Art Director. Specialising in Drag photography since 2012, Greg has chosen to predominantly work with and photograph people in the LGBTQ+ community. Greg launched his own magazine in 2015 entitled “Alright Darling'' that spotlighted stars of the community and emerging talent in the drag scene. Alright Darling was later developed into a photography book of Greg’s work by Laurence King publishing in 2018 titled “Alright Darling? The contemporary Drag Scene”.

Greg has since expanded his brand to include a queer centric podcast co-hosted by Greg and his close friend Daniel Leo Stanley, where they discuss everything from mundane daily annoyances to sexually explicit goings on. Welcoming celebrity guests and creatives from the queer community.

Greg is famous for the candid nature of much of his photography, offering a glimpse into a side of the drag scene that is not commonly seen. His oeuvre brilliantly documents the complex and multifaceted nature of the drag scene and gives the viewer unprecedented insight into one of the more enigmatic sides of queer culture.
