About the artist

David Hockney

A pioneer of the 1960’s British movement, David Hockney is one of the most celebrated and prolific artists of the last 100 years.

His prolific nature and sheer versatility has seen him produce acrylic paintings, drawings, prints, photo-collages and iPad drawings.

Hockney’s move to California in 1964 would go on to define a significant portion of his career, rendering his new home in sensual, pastel-hued scenes of uninhibited queer men whose idyllic, sunny backdrops feature swimming pools, palm trees, and light, beautiful homes.

David Hockney is one of the lauded artists of all time, regularly exhibiting internationally. His art consistently breaks auction records with his work ‘Portrait of an artist (Pool with two figures)’ fetching the artist’s record sale of $90,312,500 at Christie’s in 2018 - at the time the most expensive work ever sold by a living artist.
