Mr Callaby
Mathew Callaby, known as ‘Mr. Callaby’ is a British contemporary artist based in Bristol.
His diverse practice, spanning paintings, prints, ceramics and charcoal works seeks to anthropomorphize and tie emotion to everyday objects often resulting in humorously sinister compositions reminiscent of the golden age of American animation but with an undeniably unique twist.
His superflat compositions are often rendered on a massive scale, starting life as small sketches and drawings which he constantly creates whilst out and about. He recalls always having a keen interest in art, inspired by Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon tv shows, the influence of which has bled into and informed much of his output.
Mr. Callaby has sold work internationally, his signature, illustrative style gives his work an enduring appeal that resonates with all generations of collectors.
