About the artist

Lady Pink

Sandra Fabara AKA Lady Pink is an Ecuadorian-born artist based in New York. Often described as the ‘First lady of graffiti’, she started making art in 1979 following the loss of her boyfriend.

Following her involvement with the show ‘Graffiti art success for America’ in the early 1980’s her recognition as a prominent artist rapidly grew - going on to have a leading role in the 1983 film ‘Wild style’ alongside Fab 5 Freddy and Rammellzee, she was involved in the production of the acclaimed book ‘Subway art’ by Martha Cooper and collaborated with Jenny Holzer on numerous occasions.

Her style plays on pop-surrealism, heavily leaning into the New York motifs that inspired her upbringing. Her career focuses on graffiti and murals as a conduit for rebellion, self expression and womanhood in a traditionally male-oriented space. Her work currently resides in collections of the Whitney museum, the Brooklyn museum and the Metropolitan museum of art in New York.
