Signal

We are thrilled to announce Signal; the first ever UK solo show by internationally acclaimed graffiti artist POSE.

Having exhibited in Basel, Dubai, New York, Detroit, Los Angeles and most recently London - as part of Beyond the Streets at Saatchi Gallery, POSE will bring his infamous blend of graffiti and pop art to Brighton this spring.

Including works that have never been on show in the UK before, the collection will feature a number of large scale originals on canvas alongside a brand new limited edition print, exclusive to Helm.

A member of the street art collective Mad Society Kings, POSE’s career began in graffiti and has since evolved into studio work - incorporating painting, murals, sculptural and installation artworks into his practice.

By employing universal human emotions as inspiration, POSE draws from all that is around him, with each canvas its own fascinating, layered, world. Signal demonstrates a body of work that uses both blasts of vibrancy and sharp lines on a massive scale, true to the artist’s signature style.

When speaking of his practice, POSE explains: “I get very obsessed with the work that I create. It yanks me out of bed early in the morning and doesn’t let me sleep at night. I get really high from the relationship I get with a body of work.”

Signal will be on show in Helm's Exhibition Hall between 14th March and 21st April 2024. The space is open to the public and always free to enter.

We will be hosting an opening party for the exhibition on Thursday 14th March. Register for a free ticket below to celebrate this landmark event with us.

About the artist

Pose is a contemporary artist based in Chicago, Illinois. Revered for his exceptionally detailed and large-scale graffiti pieces, his work has been described by Shepard Fairey as being “a hybrid of the aesthetics of pop-art, graffiti, sign painting and comics that are all areas of his interest done in his own style”.

His art combines the immediacy and vibrancy of comic-book style characters with hidden intricacies and elements of graffiti to produce surreal pastiches of pop-art perfection. In his own words Pose feels “inspired by challenges and uncomfortable territory”, using his immaculate technique and obsessive need to create he's turned his hand to murals, prints, paintings and three-dimensional installations.

A large part of his expertise lies in taking everyday objects from the world around him and morphing their influence into his art, it could be street-signs, pages from his wife's childhood books or elements from cartoons and films, he works with the ordinary and turns it into the noteworthy.

Pose's place in the street-art canon is more assured with every released. Having featured heavily in Saatchi's 'Beyond the streets' exhibition this year and having shown work internationally for over a decade, his work remains as relevant and exceptional as ever.
