Struck by light: A Photo Fringe showcase

  • We are thrilled to announce our latest creative partnership with Photo Fringe, a collaborative platform renowned for promoting innovative lens-based artists and fostering diversity, creativity, and inclusion through photography. Together, we are proud to present the Struck by Light exhibition at Helm, running from 4th October to 27th October.

Struck by Light is an international group of female-identifying photographic artists who push beyond the boundaries of photography. This mini-exhibition is a vibrant showcase of artistic strength and experimentation, bringing together the works of 9 pioneering artists who explore photography as a medium of wonder, imagination, and transformation.

“Light’s immateriality challenges its makers today, analogue versus digital doubles our challenges. It is here, in modern and contemporary art, that one finds a “linked ring” to characteristics within the DNA of photography - science, optics, shadow, reflection, silhouette, process, chemistry - that today’s practitioners underscore in their concepts, enriching content, adding context, citing this history at the dawn of medium to now in their versions of drawing with light.”

An Experience of Creativity and Connection

Throughout the exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity to explore these extraordinary works and discover the artists behind them. Struck by Light is more than just a visual experience—it’s an invitation to engage with art that challenges conventions and sparks dialogue. The collective’s work has been recognised internationally for its inventive approach and focus on women in photography, making it a truly special exhibition that celebrates both creative innovation and social impact.

At Helm, we are proud to partner with organisations like Photo Fringe to bring compelling art to our community. By supporting these initiatives, we hope to contribute to a broader conversation about the importance of diversity, innovation, and social responsibility in art.
